PRESIDENT’S REPORT – 5 MARCH 2019
Posted By Vivienne Truelove
The rotary Club of Dural has been busy this month
We inducted Dr Athula Gunasekara, an international Cardiologist from Dural. He was nominated by Sam Russo.
Cindy Wei is our next new member, nominated by Silvia Li. All members be on the look out for new Rotarians.
Our Guest Speaker on March 5th was Allen Heighway explaining how he survived three heart attacks. A very lucky man. His talk was easy to follow in plain English, with a good power point presentation. Allan has done his talks to twelve Rotary Clubs so far. He said he enjoyed the meeting and said we had a good club.
Galston High School was the venue for our Mental Health Program. This time we had year 10. The room was full of interested students. Joan, Paul and myself represented Dural Rotary and Gary for Bendigo Bank Jude, a young women who has been involved in The Head Space group, gave a really good talk on her own personal dramas . She was hospitalised for a while and has had years of counselling. Today she is coping well. The students were able to hear first hand of what can happen if left unchecked. I presented a cheque to Head Space on behalf of Dural Rotary, so they can keep up their good work. Our two speakers had good results, with several students staying back for a talk to the experts. Everyone received a handout to take away and read.
I have just returned from Mornington Peninsula in Victoria. Spent a couple of weeks with the Ulysses Club at their Annual Rally. Very nice town, bigger than I expected, we had our event in the racecourse. Plenty of room for the couple of thousand of us.
The Pride of Workmanship award night is on Tuesday 2nd April as mentioned before. We have three worthy nominees, who were surprised to be selected. All quiet achievers, doing a good job in our community
An attendance flyer will be sent out.
Please RSVP by 27th March for catering
See you all on the 19th March
