This evening we were visited by Robert Jordan, a retired pharmacist and a Community Ambassador for Ovarian Cancer Australia.

Robert gave us an inspirational presentation about Ovarian Cancer, the most deadly form of cancer for women in Australia today. Of 4 women diagnosed each day in this country, 3 will not survive past 5 years from diagnosis. Around a quarter of a million women are diagnosed each year worldwide.

Robert’s wife Diane was diagnosed in 2010 and sadly passed away in 2014 – and whilst he is still obviously missing her, Diane’s passing and the time he spent caring for her has obviously inspired him to his current position as a community ambassador. He is also a retired Rotarian and I think he enjoyed our club’s particular brand of fellowship.

We thank Robert for taking time to come and talk to us and reminding us that the long battle we have with cancer is far from over – but making inroads all the time.

More information about Ovarian Cancer Australia can be found on their website.
