Changeover 2019 – Another Year Starts
Posted By Dural Rotary
2019-2020 A VIBRANT YEAR BEGINS
Friday 28th June saw over 50 people attend our changeover meeting. Everyone seemed to have a good evening. I was installed as president for 2020 and introduced the new board – with two new faces, Silvia Li and Bob Onikul. Thanks for your service this year George and I look forward to your support in the coming year.
It was good to see Shane Brownless again, let's hope we see more of him as he recovers.
As I reflect on the evening's celebrations I am firmly of the belief that our club is in good shape. This past twelve months has reminded me that none of us are doing this alone. I have been touched by the support I am getting both as incoming president and personally by other club members, despite their own difficulties.
For me, the highlight of the evening was the presentation to Alf Barbagallo for his 50 years' membership. Alf represents Rotary for me, rock solid commitment to the club and a great fellow to share a beer with.
2019-2020 will be a year for our club to grow further. We are welcoming new members. We have two prospects already in the pipeline to swell our ranks. Our regular email communication to the wider community is already generating interest not only in membership but also in affiliation. I would love to develop a vibrant club, one that people notice in the community – and that's going to mean going out to shopping centres and handing out leaflets and getting our stand up at the Growers Market at the Dural Country Club.
I am really looking forward to serving you this year.
Mark Buckingham
President 2019 – 2020
AWARDS
There were a number of awards given out on the evening:
Ben Swane Business Community Service
- Lucy Cali was presented with the Ben Swane award. Lucy helps has helped our club for years and is truly deserving of this award.
IAN FAIRJONES MEMORIAL
- Clarrie Nolland's contribution to the club continues to be appreciated. The BBQ raises such a lot of the funding we so badly need.
Paul Harris Fellows
The Youth Mental Health program we sponsor in local high schools is a showcase of how we can truly affect the lives of the vulnerable in our community. Suzanne Coleman runs this project for our club and we were able to recognise the two counsellors that do such good work.
- Leanne Hall
- Peter Casbolt
HONOURING 50 YEARS SERVICE
It was a special part of the night to acknowledge Alf Barbagallo's 50 years as a member of Dural Rotary. His contribution to the club has been monumental and he is still a passionate Rotarian.
CHEQUE PRESENTATIONS
A number of cheques were presented to causes we support:
- Inala
- Pyjama Foundation
- Dural Men's Shed
